Our recent obsession is watching “The Golden Girls” on Amazon Prime. I had no idea how often these ladies just pulled a cheesecake out of the freezer and sat around cracking jokes. I have been throughly amused by this show and remember bits and pieces from when it ran the first time around.
I have always loved cheesecake. I was eating cheesecake when I saw my first crush as a teenager. Later in life, my wife and I had cheesecake at our wedding instead of wedding cake. Whenever my wife and I are on a date and cheesecake is on the menu- I like to enjoy a slice to end the evening. To me cheesecake is kind of romantic.
My wife and daughter scratch made a delicious lemon cheesecake the other day. It was fantastic. It made me realize that we could have cheesecake more often. I think it shall be a possibility going forward- especially if someone else is making it for me…
My love of cheesecake will always be around. When I get older, I’ll probably eat just as much as Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia do. Nothing wrong with solving your problems over a cheesecake.
Our children are adamantly wanting to be doing more cooking and baking these days. Over the past few weeks we’ve made Pasta, Churros, and Donuts. Today, we made all of them!
We are getting better at the recipes as well. There’s still the occasional blunder- adding the butter a bit late in the churros or the donuts not rising because of old yeast. But we are still enjoying all of the splendors. My wife also made her first ever cheesecake the other day. It was delicious!
I want to start working towards some more recipes that are savory instead of sweet. Maybe learn to make my own potato chips or something. Who knows, but my deep fryer has been turning out some fantastic desserts.
Have you been baking more these days? Or trying to expand your horizons a bit? Let me know in the comments.
Breakfast cereal is extremely popular in our home. If we aren’t running out of milk, we are running out of cereal. Our kids love the not-so-sweet cereals such as Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Granola, and Shreddies. These all have some sugar added, but they aren’t coated in icing, chocolate or have tiny marshmallows added. Unless we add it ourselves.
The other day my wife scored a rocking deal on Rice Krispies. She bought 14 boxes for 94¢ each. They were “Spring Edition” with some bits covered in blue or green food coloring. Still tasted the same as regular Rice Krispies. Our kids didn’t care. Plus the “Expiry Date” isn’t until November. Guaranteed they won’t last that long!
With one box, I made two batches of Rice Krispies Squares. I had never in my life made these treats. All of my children have done it with the help of their aunt. She loves to teach them how to bake whenever they visit her. So today I had my oldest help me in making them. I was happy with how easy it was and how much fun we had making them.
The squares turned out to be tremendously delicious. I think I may need to buy more marshmallows and do another couple of batches. You know, just to make sure it wasn’t a “one off” chance of being successful.
